The body was almost severed near the middle, the head was nearly off at the neck and his feet were found in a ditch several yards away." The jury at the inquest returned a verdict that Richard Jones had committed suicide whilst under the influence of drink and labouring under temporary insanity; they also donated their fee to his mother, who was in very poor circumstances.

John Edwards, G106, was living in Shipbuilders Row, Aberystwyth, in 1851 with his wife, Elizabeth. At the time the brig 'Credo' regularly sailed from Aberystwyth across the Atlantic taking cargo and emigrants and it was while he was rendering assistance to the 'Credo' that he was drowned. It seems that he was coming into the mouth of the Rheidol in a small boat from the 'Credo' – with his brother, David, and another man, when the boat lurched over and he was thrown out and drowned. In 1872 the Cambrian News reported that the brig 'Credo' had been abandoned on the high seas on a voyage to Aberystwyth. Her owner was Thomas Jones and this is the brig featured on the well known local emigration poster.

George Green married and was living at Codsall in Staffordshire in 1824 when his more famous son (in Aberystwyth, at least), was born; he was the George Green who ran the flourishing foundry in Alexandria Road, Aberystwyth. Another of his sons was Joseph Green who served in the Royal Navy and amongst his daughters were Rebecca Fletcher, Susanna Whittaker, who was married to John Whittaker, an engineer like his father-in-law, who was a turner by trade.

Anne Felix is described in the 1841 Census as a 'Tea Dealer' and in the Census of 1851 she is referred to as a 'Welsh Harper'. She lived witll her two sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret, and her brother, Felix, at a little ivy-covered cottage about two miles from Aberystwyth on the way to Bow Street, close to the lane that once led to the mansion at Gogerddan but now forms part of the road to Penrhyncoch. She was known as 'Nanci'r delyn' (Nancy of the Harp) and, though blind, was known far and wide as an excellent harpist and was retained as harpist to the pryse family of Gogerddan. Her pretty cottage, with it's well kept garden, was a popular tourist attraction: in 'Black's Picturesque Guide' it was reported that visitors there "may have refreshment and listen to some of the beautiful Welsh harmonies performed on the national instrument by this sightless but cheerful harper; and by small presents they will have the gratification of contributing to the support and comfort of a truly deserving woman and her two sisters" . To attract visitors Anne Felix printed a card, headed 'The Welsh Harp', which contained the following information:

'Visitors at Aberystwyth desirous of hearing the Welsh Harp in its native simplicity may be gratified by a visit to the

Blind Harper's Cottage, two miles from Aberystwyth, on the North Road. The cottage commands a beautiful view of

the Vale of Rheidol, Plynlimmon, and the surrounding mountains. Tea is provided for those parties wishing to take refreshment'.

It was a popular activity for the local people to spend Sunday afternoons at the cottage where, in addition to the scenery, music and tea, skittles were a favourite pastime. One of Anne Felix's sisters was a 'lady who told palms' and many people went to have their fortune told this was always done in a backroom while Anne Felix entertained visitors with her harp.
